How hard is it to change a starter on a 91 nissan pathfinder, and how long will it take to change ?

If it is a 4x4 look out the transmission cooler hoses the steering drag link and the front differential all get in the way. First timer better have a good selection of swivel sockets 12mm 14mm 19mm and extensions and get ready for a messy job. On jack stands or a automotive lift that job takes a professional about 2 hours. Two wheel drive approx 1.0 hours

How is scoring added for fantasy basketball?

I am in a head to head league. So does the total points rebounds and assists of my starters get accumulated over the week and averaged out? Or do I need to change starters everyday based on who is playing? How is scoring added for fantasy basketball?
The scoring is based on head to head stats. Say you win points, rebounds, and FG% that would be 3 points and so on.

that one is easier to do from the bottom of the car,if you can get it up in the air,it will be a lot easier,or drive it on to a set of car ramps, either way its easier if its high off the ground, once that's done make sure the battery cable is off of it and remove the bolts for it,also the wires, and then re-install the other one,its not a hard job if you have the right tools, good luck with it.

How hard is it to change a starter on a 95 mercury grand marques, and where is it located.?

The starter is located on the lower passenger side of the engine on this particular vehicle. To remove/replace the starter is fairly straightforward as it is with most vehicles. On this particular one, there are three 10mm bolts that secure it to the transmission. The most difficult part of the job will be access to the top bolt. Hope this helps. How hard is it to change a starter on a 95 mercury grand marques, and where is it located.?

How do i change a starter & tune up?

For a first timer I was wondering how do i go about changing the starter in a 95 ford taurus?

Also is been awhile over 90,000 miles since the car had a tune up and I was thinking of changing the spark plugs myself and maybe the wires any suggestion would be appreciated. As I lost my job and need to save every nickle and dime I have.

Thanks for your helpHow do i change a starter %26amp; tune up?
Don't get lazy make sure you disconnect the battery first. I find if their is anymore than one wire running to a terminal (common on older machinery and cars here in Australia) zip tie them together, also mark everything especially the first time its so much better than guessing with electrical you rarely get a second chance.Do the plugs and leads one at a time can't mix them up that way (I've been laughed at for this but have NEVER had a car not start because I've confused No1 for No2)

Good luck take your time and enjoy the satisfaction of a job well done. How do i change a starter %26amp; tune up?
first undo the batterie terminals then locate the starter unbolt the wires but remember which nub they came off then undo the two main bolts holding it up take it to autozone and have them test it to see if it is good if its bad replace the same way you took it off. as for spark plug and wires you need a spark plug socket just take your time and do 1 at a time so you dont mess up and get the firing order wrong.

    How to change a starter?

How easy would it be to change a starter on a 2000 ford Taurus

I believe that is the problem.when I go to start it all it does is Click click click...How to change a starter?
Starters also click, click, click when the battery voltage is too low. To change a starter, disconnect the negative cable on the battery, remove the wiring from the starter solenoid, remove the bolts holding the starter to the transmission. to install do every thing in reverse order with hooking up the battery negative cable last. It's easier to have a mechanic do it than buy all the right tools. How to change a starter?
its easy its 2 or 3 bolts max just unscrew them and disconnect the terminals and screw the new one right in. you could however try to smack the solenoid with a hammer though it works for a while the solenoid is the funny looking add on on the side of the starter and this sticks stopping the starter operate if you hit it you sometimes free it and it allows the starter to turn over (operate) for one try..How to change a starter?

Very simple job.......disconnect the battery cable before you start...... to take the old one off, disconnect the cables and remove the bolts, insert the new one, put the bolts in and connect the cables. DON'T FORGET TO RECONNECT THE BATTERY CABLE.

Does any one know how to change a starter?

It's a 96 dodge intrepid. Thanks.Does any one know how to change a starter?
easy one, You will need to jack the car up and support it so the car does not move or fall off the jack. If you havea some simple ramps it will be even better.

Once this is done you will need to remove the battery cable to ensure you do not create any sparks.

Locate the starter under the vehicle bolted to the engine block with the transmission next to it.

You will see a single red (Thick) wire attached to the starter. remove the nut and washer with a socket wrench and remove the wire cable.

There are two bolts holding the starter to the engine block. You will need a Socket wrench to unbolt these two bolts. once you remove these the Starter should slide out along the transmission side and it should be free.

Go to the autoparts store with the starter to ENSURE you get an exact match of starter. Take your registration with you so you know the make model and year and engine size to get the right starter.

reverse order in placing the new starter.Does any one know how to change a starter?
Undo your positive battery cable, lift or jack the car up, take the starter bolts loose, then pull the starter out of the dust cover and flywheel area. Once loose remove the wires. Reverse to reinstall. The starter is between the engine and transmission, what is refered to as a dust cover hides the flywheel, and they have 2 bolts that hold them on, if you need that info.Does any one know how to change a starter?
Remove neg. battery cable, set aside.

    Locate starter, near transmission.

Remove any and all electric connections to starter, set aside.

Remove bolts, usually two, one high one low. Remember where they came from as some are longer than others.

Remove starter by pulling it away from transmission.

Install new starter the same way the old one came out.

Install bolts in theyre original positions and hand tighten.

Tighten bolts evenly by swithching between the two as you go.

Ensure the starter is flush in its mount.

    Reconnect wiring.

    Reconnect neg terminal.

    Call it done!

Good luck! You will need a socket and wrench set.

The vehicle will need to be raised, use jack stands!

If youll be patient and remember how it came off, you can put it back.

    Good Luck!

Starter motor on y reg ford galaxy?

hi all i need to change my starter motor on ford galaxy can anyone tell me how to go about it i have changed starter motors before but not on this is it a easy job? and where do i start? thanksStarter motor on y reg ford galaxy?
You dont say what year Galaxy, but as I remember they pretty much all are sitting yo low to crawl under. So that said you need to make sure to have a floor jack, jack stands, or ramps. I cant remember which side its on and as to the level of difficulty, That can also vary by what engine is in the car, and its not hard as long as you have the tools needed and have the capability AND the most important part PAITENCE,,, Dont get worked up and pissed off if things dont go as fast as you want them too.

NOW If You can change a starter, then you can save yourself alot of money too, if your willing to learn something else when you do the starter. DONT Buy a new or rebuilt starter,,,, Just buy the Brushes, and change them out. I know a new starter for my Explorer is about $129.00, The brushes cost about $6.00, If you are not sure ask around and talk to guys at the Auto parts stores, If you do the brushes prepare to get dirty and greasy, but its well worth the savings. I was gonna e-mail you and give you more details how to do it but you have that options disabled. Feel free to email me if you like I will tell you more.Starter motor on y reg ford galaxy?
not done this one myself either. as far as I am aware its standard procedure and fairly straightforward for any competent DIY man who can safely handle a spanner. do use the normal safety axle stands and do NOT work under any vehicle on a jack.

it will have 3 bolts securing starter motor to the block and two cables. one fairly large and one thin.

disconnect these first. (replace last in order of removing thin one off first and replacing, thin wire on last)

it isn't too bad if you can get plenty of access under the vehicle but can be a bit fiddly. use a 13mm socket or ratchet spanner. the thin wire should? be 10mm. (may be a push on pull off )

ideally pop along to local library and have a look in a workshop manual. not sure if there are any online pictures eg how to on a galaxy?

How to change a starter on a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

There might be a couple ways to do it. I have heard of taking off the exhaust, and removing the starter solenoid. The easiest way that I have found is to unbolt the starter completely and let it rest on the exhaust. Then there is a O2 sensor right behind where the starter lays. You should remove that. Below the O2 sensor is a little bracket with some wires. Remove the screw that holds the bracket on and let it hang. You should be able to wiggle the starter between the frame and exhaust. I takes a little persuading but it will come out. Good luck!

my car would start it will run for three days and then it wont start all i hear is a clicking noise..people tells me it's the starter can it be something else..thanksHow to change a starter on a 2000 jeep cherokee 8cyl?
Start with checking your battery connections, clean them and be certain you have a full charge on the battery. Also clean and tighten the connections on the solenoid and the starter motor. Check the negative connection to the engine. All of these things are more likely than a starter motor.

To change the starter, disconnect the battery negative at the battery, then crawl under the vehicle and disconnect the wires to the starter, unbolt the starter, 2 or 3 bolts, remove the starter and reverse the procedure to install a new one.

The clicking sound you hear indicates either a weak battery or a weak solenoid, more than a bad starter. When a starter fails, it usually fails completely. I suspect a loose connection or a weak battery is the culprit. Total time maybe 2 hours. How to change a starter on a 2000 jeep cherokee 8cyl?

Also, to change a starter is easy:

Where can i find a how to to change a starter for a 1967 Comaro RS?

With or with out header? If you have headers then you檙e going to have to loosen the header to get the starter out. Other wise just prop the front of the car up on jack stands loosen and remove the positive battery cable from the battery. crawl under the car and locate the starter (Should be passenger side at the back of the motor. remove the battery cable from the starter and any other cables that may be attached. move to the side. Now remove the upper and lower fasteners (bolts) from the starter. Holding the starter with 2 hands slowly pull the starter back and out of the hole. The starter will be heavy so use two hands. Installation is the reverse. While you have the starter out, now would be a good time to replace that aging positive battery cable that runs to the start. A fresh cable will give you the maximum Power needed to turn the new starter.Where can i find a how to to change a starter for a 1967 Comaro RS?

    95 saturn starter change?

i need direction on how to change the starter on a 95 saturn, step by step will be the best, thanks.95 saturn starter change?
Disconnect the battery, Raise the car up on jack stands.

Laying under the car, the starter is up behind the engine, up above the right side axle. You will need to disconnect a 13mm(1/2 inch) nut off the starter (this is the battery, feed thick red cable) Then you will need to disconnect the smaller nut (10mm i think) this is the ignition feed. Once those are disconnected there are two 15mm bolts to remove one is visible, one is not. You will need a shot extension maybe 3-4 inches on your rachet to gain access to the bolt you cannot see... Once those are out, reverse the procedure to assemble.

    Kevin95 saturn starter change?
before raising car remove 8mm bolt from positive side of battery, raise car, remove 15mm nut from starter post, unhook starter wire, use deep 13mm socket with 3 inch extension, remove lower bolt. Use 13mm socket with 6 inch extension remove top starter bolt, remove old starter, replace with new starter and place top bolt into socket, reaching over the starter, install top bolt, bottom bolt, then reattach wires.

get a digital camera. take off the air cleaner and snap a few pictures and download to your computer. take some more off, take pictures and download. after you get the intake off and install the starter, start going together with it, if you get stuck, look at your pics. How do i change a starter in a 1998 cadillac deville.?
Sounds like the Northstar V-8. If you want to do this yourself, you will need a few items.

    1) intake gaskets

    2) new coolant

    3) starter

    4) lots of patience

First thing is to drain the coolant. remove the fuel rails, all the other vacuum hoses, electrical connectors and such. then remove the manifold. once that's off the starter is easy. Just try to label everything before you start so there's no confusion when you put it all back.

Good luck with that. How do i change a starter in a 1998 cadillac deville.?
i dont know on that car. try getting a chilton's or hayne's repair manual and follow those directions. either is a good investment if you plan on working on your car yourself. How do i change a starter in a 1998 cadillac deville.?
It's an expensive part, and will run you between $200 and $300 just for the part. But you don't need to remove air intakes to get to it.

Put the car up on ramps, or jack it up and use stands. Remove the negative battery terminal. Remove the wires from the old starter, remove the 3 bolts and slide it out. Reverse that to install the new one.

It comes out from underneath, of course. How do i change a starter in a 1998 cadillac deville.?
As I sit here laughing, I can't imangine what type of experience you have in the automotive field. {nothing against you} The other individual the suggested for you to get the intake set and associated parts, is right; however, he did not mention that engine has a plastic intake, and the gasket set is a real pickle if not installed correctly. Furthermore, if you over torq the intake, that is if you were successful in getting the starter in, be sure not to crack the intake.

Oh, and you would also need to release the pressure on the fuel rail and dump the power. Not a bad job if your doing it for a living, but I have had to re-due one for a customer that... you guessed it, cracked the upper intake. yea, he also busted some of the molded plastic emission tubes. The get brittle with age.

Good LuckHow do i change a starter in a 1998 cadillac deville.?
Why do people answer these all to often legitamate questions , asked by legitamate people wanting a legitamate answer when they are not familiar with the topic. Why would anybody put a caddy with a north star on jack stands to remove the intake manifold. That one beets me.

I dont want to spend the money on a munual, does anyone know of a website that gives you a step by step breakdown for free. How do I change the starter on a 1999 4runner.?
AutoZone will probably give you the procedures when you buy a starter, if you really need one.

I am assuming you know where the starter is and what it looks like. Remove the positive (red) cable from the battery. Then remove (and mark) the wires from the starter. It will likely have 2-4 bolts holding it on. Remove these bolts, and pull the starter forward. It should come right out. Take it and have it tested before you buy a new one; sometimes that isn't really the problem. Installation is the reverse. When you put the starter into the hole, you may have to turn it slightly to engage the gears.

    Good luck!How do I change the starter on a 1999 4runner.?
There are no web sites, but you can try your local library. they may have what you need for free. First disconnect the neg. side of the battery as this is the ground side first. when you buy the starter buy a good one and then ask for some instruction to install. Some may be in the box, but as mentioned have your old one tested first. This is free. When installing do not over tighten the electrical connections as these are soft metal. Go slow and mark you wires. Be prepared to get greasy as starters being at the bottom are usually a mess.

How to change a starter motor on a Nissan 100nx?

Detailed advice step by step needed as it has to be done this week. How to change a starter motor on a Nissan 100nx?
    At many auto parts stores you can buy a Haynes do-it-yourself manual for your model car, with step-by-step instructions, and basic explanations at the beginning of each chapter. If it is not in stock, you can order it online by searching on %26quot;auto repair manuals%26quot; on Yahoo search. In the front is a section on %26quot;Troubleshooting%26quot; that guides you step-by-step to find causes of most engine malfunctions based on the car's symptoms. Whether you do the work yourself or not, it helps you make informed decisions and not be taken advantage of, and to not feel so %26quot;in the dark.%26quot;

db667089 says: you can check http://www.alldatadiy.com. For about the same price as a Haynes or Chilton's repair manual, you can have online access (for a whole year) to model specific info for your particular vehicle. This is the same info that repair shops use. They have great wiring schematics/diagrams.

Also, for about $15 for a one-month subscription, you can get the factory manual, downloadable whole or by sections (careful! Mine was about 500 pages!) or viewable, at http://eAutoRepair.com.

go to the car part store, buy a Chilton's book on your make and year explorer , it give a step by step direction on all phases of YOUR car, taking a starter out is easy, get the truck up on jacks, clean the wires up so you can see , and make a drawing of where there hooked up, not a big deal , take the + cable off the battery, and unhook the wires on the starter, now take the starter out, most of the time there are 2 different size wrenches, take it to a shop that fixes only starters and alternators, saves you 1/2 the cost, reinstall in reverse order, this is about 1 hours work .

How do i change the starter in my 77 chevy truck?

The truck had a little bit of a problem starting. The ignition key sometimes sticks. I tried to turn it on yesterday and now it won't start. How do i change the starter in my 77 chevy truck?
It should be on the bottom of the engine on the passenger side. Disconnect the battery first. Then, disconnect the wires on the starter, unbolt the two bolts and drop it out. Keep any shims you may find on it to install on the replacement starter. How do i change the starter in my 77 chevy truck?
starter is easy, two bolts hold it to the engine, two wires are connected to the solenoid, buy the new one first, compare it to the old one before you remove it making sure you bought the right one.

take your time and start by disconnecting the truck battery cable. How do i change the starter in my 77 chevy truck?
do not change the starter, your problem sounds like the lock cylinder or the ignition switch. If i were you, i would find out he problem before i started throwing parts at it.How do i change the starter in my 77 chevy truck?
the ignition key and the starter are completely different things...

but if you need to change the starter... 1st find it, it'll be connected to the engine and to the battery by the cable.,..

2nd, disconnect the battery cable and take off the bolts holding the starter on aand remove

3rd, put the other one on the way the old one came off.How do i change the starter in my 77 chevy truck?
When you say the ignition key sticks, do you mean it keeps cranking even after you release? The ignition lock cylinder will rarely stick. What will stick is the actual switch which is located on top of the column. Also, if the battery is low or the starter solenoid is going out, it will keep cranking even after you have released the ignition switch from starting position. Now that it wont start, does it crank, does it click or does it not do anything? How do i change the starter in my 77 chevy truck?
Ok unless it is the original starter and it has been getting weaker for some time it is unlikely that your starter failed. Trust me on this one I have a 78 chevy Blazer that ran through about 15 of them because of a stripped bolt I can tell just by how it sounds whats wrong. The guy right before me is probably right!!! if you want to try something really dumb that tells you if its working. Unbolt it and slide it down and away from the truck as far as you can using thick gloves or a plastic handled screwdriver touch the negative and the positive bolt posts if it still works it will startle the hell out of you if not well then you know, But DO NOT do this on the car you will jump the first time and like me probably touch the screwdriver to the tranny coolent lines which crates a makeshift arc welder thats not good.... you can replace your lock for about 10 dollars at autozone and maybe 2 hours of simple work. check a chilton or a manual first. on these perticular chevy's the lock cylinders from auto zone are incorrect!!! match yours to theirs and be warned they will NOT stay in the car with the new ones its a pain in the *** but they come right back out because of a design diviation for a few years...How do i change the starter in my 77 chevy truck?
From my decades of experience I will add something few people think of when they have a problem like yours. On that old of a vehicle one of the prime reasons for a ignition cylinder sticking is a worn out ignition key. The key, after years of use, wears to the point it is not correctly engaging the lockset inside the cylinder. Try your spare key to see if it works better. It's a cheap and easy test. How do i change the starter in my 77 chevy truck?
That is one of the easiest things you can do to a Chevy truck. If you have to ask then maybe you shouldn't attempt the repair yourself; on the other hand it would cost you dearly to have it done when you can do it in 20 minutes! Get a ratchet and at least a 6 inch extension, the socket is probably 9/16%26quot;. Disconnect the battery, %26quot;especially%26quot; if it is a manual transmission. Crawl under the truck on your back (no need to jack it up unless you are bigger than me or you have very low profile tires/rims on it. There are only 2 bolts that actually hold it in, but there is one nut that may have more than one thick wire with eye washers for ends on them on the solenoid and one red wire requiring a 5/16%26quot; small wrench to loosen. Once you crack the nuts loose it is probably easier to finish the removal with your fingers. Depending on what type of exhaust manifold you have on it determines how hard it will be to wiggle the starter out. Some times it can take 20 minutes to get one back in if there is little room to maneuver it out. You must remove the 2 bolts that hold it in first to gain access to the 2 nuts on the solenoid, good luck. P.S. Chevy truck starters cost around $30 with your old one in trade, take it with you save a trip back, especially have it tested before you just go out and buy one, if you don't know how to change one, just guessing I would guess that the starter might not be bad! It could be the bindex or the solenoid; don't buy one without having the old one tested at the local parts house. If you have an oil leak causing your starter to go bad from oil getting inside it the warranty will not be honored, good luck. P.S. It is tough to get it in and out, it has taken me decades to get the hang of it, 20 minutes to me could end up being several hours to you. That's how you change a starter on your truck; but if your ignition switch is on the blink, there probably isn't anything wrong with your starter! It really takes someone with much experience to change the ignition switch on your truck. The steering wheel has to come off firstly, and they don't come off easily, becides that there are many things you can damage in the process. How do i change the starter in my 77 chevy truck?
First I try jumping the solenoid. Use a screwdriver to jump the upper battery terminal to the smaller terminal next to it, the one nearest the engine. If the starter motor is good it'll crank. Be careful not to touch anything else otherwise you'll strike a nasty spark. Keep in mind the engine might try and run even with the ignition shut off because doing this also provides power to the ignition system as long as the starter is turning.

After doing this simply disconnect the negative terminal from the battery. Then disconnect all the wires from the solenoid and remove the starter from the engine. Make sure to not to loose the shims if there are any. You'll need to replace them otherwise you'll break the starter housing the first time you try and use it. You can save a few bucks by simply replacing the solenoid which is the part that usually goes out first.

To determine if it's the key switch causing the problem have someone listen for the click of the solenoid when you turn the key. No click means no power reaching the starter. Replacing the ignition switch is easy, only tool you'll need to rent is a steering wheel puller. You might need to bring the registration in to the parts store to get another ignition switch, happened to me one time. How do i change the starter in my 77 chevy truck?
First you may need to buy an ignition switch instead of a starter. If the switch is sticking the switch may be going bad.

If you feel you need change the starter after checking the switch repost question and someone will walk you through it.

I don't think this is a job for you, and your starter motor may not be bad. There's many reasons other than the starter motor why your engine will not crank over when you try to start it. The only way to replace most starter motors is with the car on a lift to access the underside of the engine. Some vehicles are especially difficult to replace the starter motor on. Make sure to replace your battery after 4 years and have the battery cable connectors removed and cleaned with a wire brush. Your ignition switch could be faulty. How long should i wait to change my starter barbell to a regular one?

i got my tongue pierced 2 weeks ago, and i'm debating on whether or not i should change it to a regular stud now.How long should i wait to change my starter barbell to a regular one?
It takes on average 3 months for a tongue piercing to fully heal- give or take. It heals from the outside in, so we often think that it is healed-when it really isn't. Considering that....waiting 4-6 weeks to change your barbell is ideal. But of course, that extra long barbell is annoying!!

If you really can't handle the barbell anymore- go back to your piercer for a shorter one. It will be properly sterilized and you won't be risking an infection. Plus, you will get the right size.

If you can wait though, then you can just change it yourself in another 2-4 weeks.

Hmm...I don't really remember much 'oozing'...but I would say that after 10 full days, I saw and felt a great improvement.

Just a warning- I waited 6 weeks to change my barbell to a shorter one, and when I did, the new ball had to re-set the groove in my tongue because the other one was so long that the balls no longer touched it- and it's really uncomfortable.

    Good Luck :)

it took about a week for it to stop completely oozing

and less then 2 weeks to completely heal (Y)

but im a healthy chicky so it probly took less than that. How long should i wait to change my starter barbell to a regular one?
Wait at least 3 more weeks to change the jewelry. Tongue piercings take at least a month to heal. Feeling healed and being healed are two different things. When you do have it changed, I would advise having a piercer do it the first time. How long should i wait to change my starter barbell to a regular one?
I changed mine to a shorter one after 9 days. If all your swelling is gone I recommend changing it now :)

is there a good wibsite that will tell me how to change it?How do i change a starter on a 1991 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS CALAIS?
The first and most important thing you MUST do is to disconnect BOTH of the battery cables from the battery.

Now, locate your starter and if space allows remove all the wires that are attached to the starter solenoid. Next remove the two large bolts the hold the starter to the engine block. You may need to loosen or remove one or more sheilds around the starter. Once you have removed those two bolts, it should come right out.

Now, when you go to install the new starter, be sure to read the installation instructions very carefully. You may be REQUIRED to install a shim between the new starter and the block to ensure proper starter engagement with the flywheel.

Once you have determined whether or not you need to install a

shim, you can place the new starter in the same location as the old one and reinstall the two starter attaching bolts. Then reattach all of the wires in EXACTLY the same locations as they were removed.

Then reinstall you battery terminal cables and start vehicle.

The starter should turn the engine with a minimum of noise. If the starter does not want to turn the engine over easily, the starter is too close to the flywheel and you will need to add a shim. If the starter makes a grinding/whirring sound when engaged, it is too far from the flywheel and you will need to install a thinner shim or remove it all together.

I hope that helps! How do i change a starter on a 1991 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS CALAIS?

How do I change the starter in a 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis?

I need to pull the starter on my husband's car and get it looked at. I'm fairly mechanically inclined, and I usually do our vehicle work myself, but this is a new one for me. Can anyone explain to me how to do this? How do I change the starter in a 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis?
Sweet! I love these cars. I'm guessing yours has the regular 302 (5.0 liter nowadays) engine in it. Either way you're in for a treat. The starters on these cars are remarkably easy to get to. You will have to do it from underneath, and unless you're a scarecrow that means jacking the vehicle. Make sure you pull a battery cable before you start! That starter has a dedicated cable directly from the positive terminal of the battery, and if it hits anything metal it'll ground itself out. They say to disconnect the negative, but either one will do. Hell, if you're unsure disconnect both if it makes you feel better, just don't fool around with that cable while attached to the battery. Now, if I remember correctly the starter should be on the driver's side of the engine. You'll see a cylinder about 8 inches long and as big around as a tuna can, and Ford usually paints it black (hey, get your mind out of the gutter! lol). It will be in line with the engine and the attached end is where the engine meets the transmission bellhousing. The good news is there's only 2 mounting bolts. The bad news is there might be shims. Disconnect the wires to it first. There should only be 2, one big red one straight from the battery (mentioned earlier), and a smaller one going to the solenoid. Ford may have included a third wire in later years but I'm not sure. Anyway, unhook the wires and remove those 2 mounting bolts. They're very long and the starter weighs over 8 pounds so it's quite a handful... don't let it bop you in the head. Anyway, look for shims if they were used and note how many there were. These little spacing plates have to go back on the same way they came off. There's usually only one or two but there might not be any. Just make sure one's not stuck on either the bottom of the engine or to the starter after you've yanked it. They tend to stick sometimes. Now, bolt on the new one in reverse order. Oh, there's a core charge for starters so return the old one to the store you bought it at for your refund. Oh, I almost forgot... buy the starter first before you start. They'll charge you a core charge but like I said, you get it back. As for prices, Advance or Auto Zone are usually cheapest at around 60 bucks for a 302 starter. The core charge might be an additional 30. Either way, a shop would easily charge you over $100 in labor for this simple procedure. I hope this helps. Good luck! How do I change the starter in a 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis?
I did it on my '92 marquis fairly easy. It took about 20 minutes. You need to raise the car and find the starter, take it off and put a new one in. Mine was a silver bulky circular thing. It was kind of hard taking it off, but was much easier if you have it at a shop where you can raise the car way up. (my friend had a shop and he let me use it)

My friend says this kind of job would cost $250 parts and labor. How do I change the starter in a 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis?
Not easy, but not too bad.

    This is the generic version.

Disconnect the battery. Jack up the car far enough so you can get underneath it easily. Use jack stands to support the weight, NOT the jack.( Make sure you use them properly.) Disconnect the wires at the starter and mark/remember where they go. Remove the starter mounting bolts. Remove the starter.

If you need to ask where the starter is located, don't do this by yourself. No disrespect meant here-but you could get hurt doing this. Also, you may have to move/remove other components to do the job.

If you're really determined, but want detailed information, try a Chilton's or Haines shop book. You can find them at parts stores, online and eBay-and even at the library. Get one specific to your car-that will tell you EXACTLY how to do it. Also, you're hubby will love having one (even if he's not into mechanicals)! How do I change the starter in a 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis?

Make sure the starter solenoid gets battery voltage when you turn the ignition switch to %26quot;start%26quot;. Make sure there's battery voltage at the starter when you try to crank the engine. • 2002 chevy silverado How to change the starter?

Cany anyone explain to me how to change the starter? I will be installing the new one to day and could use a little insight!2002 chevy silverado How to change the starter?
Disconnect the battery first. Crawl underneath and find where the positive battery cable is attached to the starter solenoid.

Take it off and remove the smaller wires attached to the solenoid next to the battery cable. Make a mental note of how they were attached.

Next, find and remove the two bolts that hold the starter to the engine block. If there are any flat, metal pieces, those are shims and you need to use them on the new starter most likely.

Now you have to take the starter out. Sometimes this is easy, more often than not, it is a pain in the butt due to exhaust and chassis parts. It will come out, just be patient and figure it out.

Now wiggle the new one in place, reinstall the bolts and any shims . Reattach the battery cable and the smaller wire(s).

Hook the battery back up and start the truck up!

    Good Luck!

Note: Sometimes it next to impossible to disconnect the wires at the back of the starter while in place. If so, you can remove the bolts first and pull the starter down a bit so as to get to the wires. Make sure not to put the weight of the starter on the wires, support somehow or have a friend help hold it. Do the same when installing the new starter.2002 chevy silverado How to change the starter?

It sure sounds like you need a mechanic. The starter will be attached to the side of your engine . Its round with a sprocket on top and a couple of wires attached. Follow the red wire from your battery. Auto zone and advanced web sites offer repair instructions. And loan a tool programs. starters are easy to replace. the starter is located toward the back of the engine on the driver's side. There is a selinoid ....follow the positive cable to the selenoid...then on the other side of the selinoid there is a wire of equal size...follow that down to the starter. Hope this helps

just a messy job, but I would recommend a repair manual to walk you through this, assuming you have the tools you need. How easy is it to change a starter motor?
No.. because starter motors are positioned right in the middle of the engine.. so it is hard to get to.. your engine has to be disassembled.. just to replace...

Especially as its a Volkswagen.. they build their engines close together so that its hard to get to places but its secure...

Don't try do it yourself, unless your an experienced mechanic... Its a big job...!

    very expensive.,..

This is from personal experince, my mechanic replaced on a old car that i owned a few years ago.., VW sharan 2.3.. its costed a lot, it took a lot of time, and it was stressing for the mechanic... I watched him do it.. it is such a complicated process...

    Good Luck!! XD!!!!

How do you change the starter on 98 Pontiac Grand Prix?

I believe my starter is out. For a while, my car has had a slower time starting. Now it won't even start. The lights work and I tried jumping it but nothing. It makes a clicking noise when I turn the key all the way but no multiple clicking noises or other sounds. Does anyone know if this is my starter. And if so, how do I change it so I don't have to pay outrageous prices? How do you change the starter on 98 Pontiac Grand Prix?
This may sound funny but the easiest way to check to see if the starter is no good is the tap it with a hammer while the ignition switch is in the start position. If the starter spins after being struck replace it. To remove it, disconnect the negative battery cable (black) at the battery, remove the wires from the solenoid, remove the 2 mounting bolts, remove starter from vehicle, reverse to install.

Diagrams On How To Change Starters On A 93 3.1 V6 Engine For A 93 Olds Cutlass Supreme that is free?

Must be pretty much free. I don't have any time to go to a library or buy one right now. So if anyone can tell me where to find one online so I can easily view it and print. Thank you so much.Diagrams On How To Change Starters On A 93 3.1 V6 Engine For A 93 Olds Cutlass Supreme that is free?
Disconnect your negative battery cable. Raise the front of the car. You will find the starter next to oil pan, between the engine and the radiator, just above the front undercarriage. Remove the batter cable and wires from the front of the starter. Remove the plastic cover at the back of the starter. There are 3 bolts in this plastic cover. One of the bolts goes into the side of the transmission. The other 2 go into the bottom of the plastic cover, and cover the bottom of the flywheel. When this is removed you will see the two bolts that go straight up into the engine block that hold the starter in place. On the front of the starter is a bracket. Take the bolt out of the starter that holds the starter to this bracket. Remove the bolt from the other end of the bracket where it bolts to the engine. Somewhat of a pain to get around the AC compressor to get this bolt out. Remove the two bolts at the back of the starter and it will fall in your lap. You may need a 6%26quot; extension on your socket to get to the bolt that has the front cross member in the way. Just reverse this to install the new one. Good luck.Diagrams On How To Change Starters On A 93 3.1 V6 Engine For A 93 Olds Cutlass Supreme that is free?

How do I the change starter solenoid in a 1995 chevy silverado?

what kind of tools do i need? is it hard to get to?? thank you!!How do I the change starter solenoid in a 1995 chevy silverado?
You should consider replacing the whole starter if the solenoid is worn out than everything else probably is too...it will save you the time and effort of having to pull the starter more than onceHow do I the change starter solenoid in a 1995 chevy silverado?
Just a couple hand tools. Be sure to disconnect the negetive battery cable first. If this a 4X4, it's a little harder due to the transfer case but it can be done. The best help and instruction guide would be to get a Chilton's or Haynes repair manual for you truck - can be purchased at Auto Zone and other auto parts stores. I have a Haynes and it got me through no problem. Good luck! How do I the change starter solenoid in a 1995 chevy silverado?
Not really, just alill out of the way as it is located on the passenger's side, where the tranny and engine meet. So, you'll need a couple of 5/8%26quot; wenches and/or maybe a socket and racket, to help speed thing along alill(and some rags). [bold]Most importantly[\bold] the very first thing you'll want to do is dis-connect the battery. Then, you can process to start to drop the starter out from underneath the truck. So, you'll be able to get to the solenoid. Which is attached to the starter. Once you get the starter unbolted(and dis-connect the three elect. leads). Which is only held in w/ two bolts. Pullin the solenoid out of the starter is a piece of cake, only one(or poss. two) bolts/screws holds it on.

Below(1st link) I've managed to locate a thread over on the FSC site. Where this one guy is removin the starter on his 94 Silverado. Maybe it'll give you more insight and/or directions. Then, I've also, included the seach results(2nd link). In case you may have some other questions. You can look thru these and maybe find some more answers.

Just take your time and try to be patient in the removal process.

Good luck! How do I the change starter solenoid in a 1995 chevy silverado?
It is all part of the starter unit itself---voltage regulator, solenoid and starter motor. It is bolted under the truck, on the engine with the big power cables from the battery---do NOT remove or try this with out a lift and proper knowledge and tools. You could arc weld a tool to the frame trying to mess with the high power--a short can blow the computer too--as well as burn you. Go to a pro and have a new starter unit put on

How do I change starter motor in my iveco daly?

Starter motor is seriously on its last legs but its gonna cost a fortune for the part let alone labour costs too, can anyone advise how to replace myself? How do I change starter motor in my iveco daly?
Well, to save on the mechanics costs you can buy a manual (for example, the Haynes Manuals are very good, from Halfords), also a large car parts warehouse (like Halfords again!) will be able to type your make and model into the computer to get you the right parts - they even will take the old one back and reduce the cost of the new unit if you do that!! (some Auto Electricians might be able to fix the starter motor if you can afford to have the van off the road for a few days, will cost maybe 拢60)

When I changed starter motor on the car it was held on by 3 bolts and 2 for the wiring, a bit of wiggling it and it came off then the new one was wiggled in place and bolted in again (Haynes Manuals have a spanner system of how hard the job is - this was 2, 1 is things like filling up the windscreen washer tank!)
