Overheating on a 1989 ford festiva L when in idle?

i have a 1989 ford festiva L and lately, it has been having its share of problems. Everything was fine until my starter went out, and now it is just being weird. i had it taken to a shop to have the starter changed and everything else tuned up, but ever since the first starter went out, if i am in idle for too long, the engine heat gauge shoots up.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Or does maybe anyone know how to fix it? Or what to even look at?

thank you for taking the time to read this, and please no sarcastic answers about my car being a ford. i am on a limited budget and i need serious answers.

Once again, thank you for your time reading this.Overheating on a 1989 ford festiva L when in idle?
There's a good possibility that the cooling fan didnt get plugged back in at the time of service or that the relay that controls the fan (cooling fan relay) is malfunctioning. The only other component in the system is the temperature sender, however if you gauge is working, more than likely its not that. Of course make sure you radiator is full as well as the overflow bottle. Hope this helpsOverheating on a 1989 ford festiva L when in idle?
its either the thermostat or your water pump i gone

when the water pump dies and u r driving the car cools off but when idle water does not not run so it heats up ! or a bad termostat does the same thing !Overheating on a 1989 ford festiva L when in idle?
may be your electric fans in the front of the engine that turn on to cool the engine down, they are not coming on.....or check your coolant/overflow bottle while it is overheating....is it really hot and boiling, DO NOT OPEN THE CAP!!! if it is may be the head gaskets, or yes even the thermostat, thanks mike
