What wrong with my car?

I changed the starter out in my 78 buicl lesaber limited. when the lights are on i try to start the car but it will not start and the lights go out. What is wrong with it and how can i fix this on my own i have no money to pay a machanic.What wrong with my car?
start by checking cables and connections, if there is any corrosion replace or clean them. if nothing wrong there it's probably the alternator. you can get it tested and advanced or auto zone. i would also get the battery tested.What wrong with my car?

Check your battery cables they may be losse. I f they are tihgten them up.

Try gharging your battery, it could be low, or dead.

If the battery is dead replace it.
